Dampier Idol, 2007 The field for Dampier Idol 2007, was a particularly talented one. Held in an early morning timeslot this year, we didn't escape the heat (or the flies) but it didn't seem to effect the work ethic of our finalists at all. Our hosts for this exciting event were Jess and Leighton, who proved themselves so very capable and responsible during the heats - thanks girls!
The entrants drew for position the week before and first up was Shelby with "Car Wash". She looked totally relaxed and had the audience singing and bopping along with her.
Our youngest entrants, Macy and Tasmin followed. Everyone loves Abba and the girls did a beaut job with "Momma Mia" and they looked fantastic.
For something a little different we had a gymnastics routine from Macie, incorporating some rope and hoop work, as well as cartwheels, stretches and splits. Now that girl can definitely 'move it'.
Before the break we had Ruby singing and playing "Scar" on the keyboard. What a versatile little performer she is. Fantastic performance, Ruby!
Mr Smith and Mrs O'Shea shared the workload to give out the Merit Awards before we got back to the final. First up after the break was Kiara, singing Rihanna's "Unfaithful". Lovely work Kiara and you looked gorgeous!
Our wildcard entry boys were next. Alex and Thomas bopped along to "Numb" and even put in a few new moves. Loved the crossovers - great job, guys!
The final act was the very vibrant duo, Ashleigh and Kelsey. They really 'live' their song and there's no doubt that these girls just love to perform.
The Choir came on to give our judges: Mr Smith, Mrs Hawke and Mrs Vertigan time to confer. They belted out that old Aussie rock classic "Eagle Rock" then settled back down for "My Island Home", featuring Shona on solo vocals.
We reintroduced our finalists again as they received certificates and medallions from Mrs Carr-White and Mrs Hay, commemorating their performance. Then it over to the chairman of the judges, for the result:
The winners of Dampier Idol for 2007 were Ashleigh Carr-White and Kelsey Sewell, presenting "The Girl in the Band". Congratulations girls - super performance!
