P&C NEWS
~
The Dampier Parents & Citizens'
Association (Dampier P&C) is established under the School Education Act
1999 for the purpose of supporting a strong government school system for
the benefit of the students.
The P & C meets the 4th
Tuesday of every month in the Staff Room upstairs at the School. The
meeting starts at 7pm, and generally doesnt run longer than 90 minutes.
The P& C aims to provide many benefits
and services to students of Dampier Primary School. Some of these are:
-
Canteen Service on Mondays,
Wednesdays and Fridays serving healthy and nutritional food and
drinks for morning recess and lunches. The canteen is staffed by a
paid Canteen manager, but volunteer help is also provided by parents.
There is always a need for more canteen helpers. See the Canteen
Manager or a Committee Member if you think you can spare some time.
-
Crosswalk Attendants the P & C
arranges a volunteer roster system to provide crosswalk attendant
services each morning and afternoon at the crosswalk adjacent to the
School. Due to the amount of traffic in town, the government is not
required to provide a paid service at this crosswalk, and as such the
service relies on volunteers from the school. Again if you can spare
a morning or an afternoon to help out on this roster, please see a
Committee Member. Full training will be provided by the local Police.
-
Uniform Shop each Wednesday
morning the Uniform Shop operates from a small room at the back of the
Kindy Building. This shop is
managed by a volunteer, and is open from approximately 8am 8.30am
each Wednesday. Uniforms are priced very reasonably, and generally
there is adequate stock available. The Uniform Shop Coordinator also
coordinates the provision of booklists at the end of each year
-
Student Insurance the P & C
subsidises a student insurance policy that parents can opt to
participate in when paying their school fees at the beginning of each
year. The insurance policy covers out of pocket medical expenses for
any accident a child may have, whether on or off school grounds.
-
Fundraising One of the primary
aims of the P & C is to raise money for projects throughout the school
for which the school budget could not absorb. For example , past
projects which have been funded are:
-
The computer room, with 23 leased
computers (total funding $33000)
-
Play equipment and shade structures
around the school
-
Sports equipment
-
Library books and equipment
-
Annual donations for classroom
extras, end of year prizes and sports carnival prizes
We
are always looking for new members and interested parents, so please
feel free to come along to our next meeting on
( to
be advised, as it's due to fall in school holidays)
