Anzac Day Service & Mother's Day Morning Tea Students, parents and friends, please be patient while this page loads. It has many lovely images so be assured that the wait will be worth your while! Our 2005 Service saw the Choir resplendent in new, white monogrammed T-shirts and they commenced proceedings with a simple yet heartfelt song called "The Last Anzac". Shelby and Charlie sang solo pieces. Great job, guys!
Harrison and Megan were our hosts. They spoke beautifully, knew most of their script off by heart and this enabled them to deliver their commentary with sympathy, understanding and respect.
Representatives from across the school presented messages of peace, including poems of the horrors of war, the honour of soldiers and the effect on loved one's lives.
We all stood as one to hear the playing of "The Last Post". Following the silence, Ryan our Head Boy, delivered "The Ode" and then we heard "Reveille", the call for all soldiers to awake. Nathan brought the flag down to half mast at first, but then he returned it to the top. Sophie, our Head Girl, reminded us of the words to "Deep Peace", the traditional Gaelic Blessing chosen for the wreath-laying: many thanks to the Year One class, Nat & Helen Gray and Sandra Hovey for the beautiful wreaths.
The Year 3/4 class presented their own special call for peace, a plea for everyone to 'stick together and see each other through a child's eyes'.
Everyone then sang the National Anthem with great pride and passion. The Anzac Board was left out for the rest of the day for people to study closely. We had a short break while people stretched their legs. The Kindy group and Pre Primarys joined us and the parents and friends helped themselves to a cup of tea and an Anzac biscuit. Sophie and Ryan took over as hosts. Class by class, students presented tributes to their mothers, commencing with our youngest. Some of these caused great amusement and much laughter.
The Choir concluded the morning's events by singing "Wind Beneath My Wings". We were told that there was hardly a dry eye after that. We thank everyone involved for their respectful attendance and attention. It is really pleasing to see how we have grown over the years and the mature way we can now participate in ceremonies such as these.
