YEAR 3 HOME

2008

Anzac Service

This year we commenced our program by watching a very special film clip called 'Can You Hear Australia's Heroes Marching', which set the mood perfectly for the rest of the service.

Ruby and Brodie were this year's presenters and they looked fantastic, proudly wearing the medals of a family friend.

The Choir sang 'From A Distance', featuring individual vocals from Shelby, Chloe and Ruby.

Then we had children from across the school reading their thoughts on war and peace, for example Mikayla's 'A Soldier's Life'...

A soldier is a person who is strong and sacrifices his life for his country

Who sees things he never wants to see again

Who feels like giving up but knows he must do his country right

Who needs someone there if he falls

Who understands that he can get killed at any time

Who wants the world to stop all this fighting

Who fears getting shot in the heart or head

Who hopes wars stop one day before he dies

Who would like to see his family again

A soldier is a person who is strong and sacrifices his life for his country.

Then we all stood together in silence  for the playing of 'The Last Post' when the flag was lowered to half mast, signifying the countless lives lost. Our Head Boy Harri delivered 'The Ode', which was followed by 'Reveille', the call for all soldiers to awake.

~THE ODE ~

They shall grow not old

As we that are left grow old.

Age shall not weary them

Nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun

And in the morning

We will remember them.

LEST WE FORGET

Mrs Gray, Mrs Howe and Mrs Van Dongen  kindly made the wreaths for this next special part of the service. Our Head Girl Keah,  reminded us of the words to 'Deep Peace', the traditional Gaelic Prayer set to music that we use for our wreath-laying.

Deep peace of the running wave to you

Deep peace of the flowing air to you

Deep peace of the quiet earth to you

Deep peace of the shining stars to you

Deep peace of the gentle night to you

Moon and stars pour out their healing light to you

Deep peace to you.

The Year 3 class concluded the service with their wish for peace for children around the world,  many of whom are living in very different circumstances from our own, called 'Light A Candle'.

It was a most moving service and we thank all who attended and participated so respectfully.
