YEAR 3/4 HOME

STARFISH

Starfish are shaped like stars

Tiny tubes with suckers like sticky insects

Arms as colourful as rubies

Really beautiful

Flowing through the water

Innocent as seahorses

Starfish can be all the colours of a rainbow

Hungry things they are.

By Bronte

SEA SNAKE

Slithering through the open water

Eating lots of little fish

A sea snake is as deadly as a lion.

Sinister eyes looking for prey

Nibbling little bits of fish to grow bigger

A non stop eating predator

Killing and devouring other fish

Enjoying its cruise in the open water.

By Bradley

GREAT WHITE SHARK

Great for eating

Racing in the water

Eats anything it sees

At good speed

The water goes wild when it cruises past.

Wild with the water

Hitting it with its tail

It’s as mad as a male kangaroo

Teeth as sharp as a vampire’s

Eats people for dinner.

Sharp teeth

Hyper as an unruly human

At a radical speed

Racing and eating

Keep away or get eaten!

By Liam

SEAHORSES

Seahorses sprinting for life

Eating lots of shrimp if they can

Are like a hint of love to the sea

Have the most extreme sea colours

On top of the reef

Rushing from danger near

Surfing across the coral bed

Everything stands out with these creatures

Seahorses are so beautiful.

ELECTRIC EELS

Electric eels are so cool when I see them in deep, dark water

Lying in the dark waiting for food to eat

Eating as much as they weigh

Cutting the food with electricity

Tying themselves around their prey

Ridging their backs when they are ready to zap

Instant death

Cuddle an electric eel – I think not!

Eels are not my type of animal to go near

Electric eels are definitely creatures to avoid

Like sharks, puffer fish and stonefish

Stay away or you might get struck!

By Ashleigh

TURTLES

Turtle’s flippers are flexible, strong paddles

Under the water they can float with the current or

Rush through the sea as fast as a bird in the sky

Their shells are as hard as boulders

Looking at them is like looking at new born seals

Every time they move it’s like seeing magic

Seeing the colours on their shells is like seeing a sunset.

By Ellen

SEA EAGLES

Sea eagles have eyes as piercing as vultures

Every catch instantly eaten

Aloft they are the kings of the sea.

Eating savagely

Abalone they snatch and scoff

Generals they are of the sea and sky

Let their intelligence bring them glory

Every bird must live in peace

Scallops beware - sea eagles are on their way!

By Harri

OCTOPUS

Octopuses are like monstrous spiders with eight deadly legs

Creatures of the dark killing midnight deep

Their heads like big boulder bashing rocks

Oddballs with their multiple moving limbs

Practical joking like fully trained magicians

Unfair cheating cheaters

Stampeding legs rushing through the thick water.

By Jack

DOLPHINS

Dolphins are silky and beautiful

Organised and whipping like seals

Looping ‘loop the loops’ in the air

Patterns through silky waters

Hit the water like sharks

Interesting and excellent

Nautical comics of the oceans

So beautiful to me.

By Courtney

JELLYFISH

Jellyfish tentacles sway in the water like kelp

Entertaining exciting swimmers

Like lolly snakes whizzing through the air

Living and moving in outrageous groups

Yolk coloured tentacles

Feeling relaxed bobbing through the gentle water

Instantly stinging when they sense danger

Swimming calmly through dangerous currents

Hurrying on their way.
