2006 Anzac Day Service (Please be patient as this page loads. There are many beautiful images and you won't be disappointed.) We held our Anzac Day Service a little earlier this year, on the last day of term before Good Friday, and as usual it was a fine turnout of both the school and the wider community. Ashleigh and Mitchell were our presenters and they looked superb. They stood and spoke with great dignity and respect.
They reminded us of the meaning of the Anzac tradition, taking us back to the shores of Anzac Cove in Gallipoli, Turkey, in 1915. The Choir then sang "Where Have All the Flowers Gone", with five of the members providing individual voices.
Children from across the school then read their thoughts on war and peace.
Ashleigh prepared us for the most solemn part of the service, when we heard "The Last Post", followed by a silence then Trent, our Head Boy, delivered "The Ode". "Reveille", the call for all soldiers to awake, brought this sequence to an end. Meanwhile Paige had been busy at the flagpole, lowering then raising the flag again.
Mitchell told us how wreaths are laid to show our respect and that they are a visual reminder of the countless lives lost during wars. Children representing the junior, middle and senior school carried the wreaths respectfully, while we listened to "Deep Peace".
Ashleigh then introduced a special call for peace, a plea for us all to come together and see the world through a child's eyes, for " We are the world, we are the children".
Everyone then stood and sang the full version of the National Anthem with great pride.
This year's service concluded in a particularly caring manner. A presentation was made to a special family, the Carr-Whites. Clint Bain and Toni Salmon, representing Pilbara Iron, paid tribute to a family who as foster carers, have provided a safe and warm haven for many young children in times of emergency or crisis.
Thank you to everyone who took part, whether it be in presentation or audience participation. It was certainly a lovely morning!
