~The Bush Dance ~ Our Bush Dance began in traditional Dampier style, with families picnicking on the oval as the sun went down.
Many people took the opportunity to support the Year 7s fund raising effort and they supplied a fine variety of home cooked foods and drinks.
The children eagerly looked forward to the night's entertainment and were 'ready to rumba'.
The Choir commenced proceedings with their 'signature' tune, "I've Got The Music In Me".
Here they are for their big finish as seen from the balcony!
Then the dancing commenced. As in past years, the children perform firstly for their parents and then with them. Our Kindy and Pre Primary kids led the way with "The Flap" and "The Circassian Circle".
The Year Ones performed "Emus and Kangaroos".
The Year Twos got everyone clapping and stamping with "The Dampier Stamp". Jake was a thorough gentleman and asked Ms Jack, our District Director, to dance.
Then it was our turn. Our dance was "The Chimes of Dunkirk", a traditional folk dance from France.
Year 4/5 performed "The Evening Three Step" and Year 5/6 "The Buttered Peas".
Year 6/7 had everybody's feet tapping with their "Progressive Jive" to Rogue Trader's "Voodoo Child".
Go Mr Simpson! The whole school performed "The Nutbush" to another of Rogue Trader's songs, "Watching Me, Watching You". Someone was even wondering what the Guinness Book of Records entry was for the number of people performing "The Nutbush" at one time.
The teachers brought the evening to an end with their tongue-in-cheek "Playground Duty Shuffle". It was another great night Dampier style, with everyone going home happy and some, not even wanting to go home! |
