YEAR 3 HOME

~ EngQuest 2005 ~

EngQuest is a competition run by Engineers Australia. It is a hands-on way to encourage students' interest in engineering, science and technology through innovation and entrepreneurship. Last year we made interactive big books that illustrated the contribution of engineers in saving our environment. This year we were challenged to design and construct a pull-along toy with moving parts, made out of recycled materials, that would fit inside a shoe box. We worked in teams of three and initially it took a lot of time, talk and compromise to come up with draft designs that were agreeable to all team members.

Construction was a slow process, invariably trial and error. Many problems were encountered, especially in transferring our paper ideas into practice. A number of willing adult hands assisted us and we thank all those involved in both small and large ways. Now that our toys are complete, we can look back on our endeavours with great pride and accomplishment.

Our pull-along toys will be judged by a regional panel of engineers early in Term 3. But in the meanwhile, we tested them out on some of our own toddlers. To see all of the completed toys, please go to our special "Toys 'r Ours" page, by clicking on the toy link below.

Congratulations Group 8 (Shelby, Mariah & Liam) and Group 2 (Jack, Ashleigh & Courtney), first and second respectively in the Regional Final and super salutations to Group 8 for Runner Up in the State Final. What an accomplishment!
