YEAR 3 HOME

~ The Paleontologist Convention ~

What an impressive lot we were, all dressed up ready to uncover fossils and discover dinosaurs, those wonderful creatures from our Mesozoic past, with a variety of tools to assist us. Kelsey and Matthew were our budding scientific hosts and a great job they did too!

We commenced our choral speaking sequence with a poem called "What if?", then Freya gave us something to think about with her piece, "Two Hundred and Six". Now, how about that for a coincidence? We have the same number of bones as a huge Tyrannosaurus Rex - hmmm!

Josh was next with his emotional piece "Ode To An Extinct Dinosaur". It brought tears to our eyes and Josh was quite overcome.

We finished that section with a rousing song about Allosaurus, that included marching, two changeovers and finishing in a semicircle on a fadeout. Well done, guys!

Tyler and Catherine were our Merit Award winners and Freya and Nathan were invested as Room 13's Student Councillors.

We wanted to share our knowledge about how dinosaurs are named so we gave a little teaching lesson on Latin and Greek root words. Scientists gave them names that gave us a pretty good description of what the particular creature looked like, for example:

Tri - cerat - ops

(Three - horn -face)

Less than 1% of all the dinosaurs that lived have been discovered so we pretended to discover and name a few of our own. Here are a small selection:

Krito - physis

    (chosen - form)

Nycho - ovo - don

    (Claw - egg - tooth)

Bronto - rex

    (Thunder king)

Tri - ultra - urus - rex

(Three - extreme - tail - king)

Meanwhile Nathan was presenting this information on the whiteboard. He was flat out trying to keep up with excited presenters but he managed it. Good job Nathan!

The whole school joined new Music Teacher, Mrs Vivian, in singing our first Community Song, "Hey Baby".

We had the big photo shoot for our parents then invited them up to our classroom for some of Mr Mitchell's wonderful Fruit Punch and a look at what we have been doing in the classroom.

It was a great morning thoroughly enjoyed by us all. And here's the gang at the Convention!
