YEAR 3 HOME

2006 Seafarers Presentation

Along with our Year 6/7 buddies, we had been collecting for the Seafarer's gift shoeboxes all term. We tried to include a range of items in each box i.e. some things for husbands, some for wives and some for children. We made the gift cards with our buddies and Mrs Hawke, Mrs Craig and the Senior girls wrapped the boxes. Mrs Mitchell told us that many of the Seafarers have a sweet tooth so we also made some traditional sweets that we usually enjoy at Christmas: fruit cake, shortbread and chocolate balls. Thanks again, Mrs Hawke, Mrs Soter and Mr O'Hennessey for your assistance with the cooking. Here's all our goodies on the day of the presentation.

We walked down to the Centre with the boxes on the second last day of school.

Unfortunately there weren't any Seafarers present but there was a nice crowd of staff, friends and Community members, including the crew from Customs. Reverend McGilvray greeted us and we put on a short concert for everyone's enjoyment.

We had a core group of Choir members who were joined by some enthusiastic members from Mrs Mitchell's class. We were getting pretty good at "Spirit in the Sky" by this time (third performance in a week).

This is a different reindeer crew from the Senior Citizen's performance - versatile lot aren't we?

Ashleigh got out of her sick bed to join her sister, Chiara, in singing "Silent Night". Glad you could make this performance, Ashleigh!

We all joined in for "So This Is Christmas" and then we surprised Reverend McGilvray by singing "Happy Birthday" and fired off a round of poppers to mark the occasion.

He thanked us for our kindness and presented a plaque to the school, which Shona and Josh received on our behalf.

Mrs Mitchell will help Ian deliver the shoeboxes to crews on Christmas Day. Check back here to see how they were received. Meanwhile, we hope that crews enjoy our selection of sweets when they visit the Centre.

Have a rocking good Christmas!
