~ Senior's Christmas Party ~ It was a very hot day late in November but we were in high spirits as we walked down to the Bowling Club to entertain the Shire's Senior Citizens. This has become an annual event now, with Karratha's Autumn Club bussing its members out and they were joined by a smattering of locals and visitors. Cr Brad Snell welcomed everyone, then it was on with the show. Harri and Shelby were our hosts and a grand job they did too.
We commenced with "Eagle Rock" to get the feet a- tapping. Our denim brigade were once again bopping out the front.
This was followed by a change of pace with "My Island Home", featuring some solo vocals by Shona. We commenced our Christmas program then with "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree", including some gentle jiving by Senior students.
The Dampier Archipelago version of "The Twelve Days of Christmas", entitled "A Pair of Thongs That Didn't Fit Me" provided some laughs.
Then it was our Junior Choir's turn to sing. They presented "Away in a Manger" and did it beautifully. Kara and Macy provided some solo vocals.
Then everyone got involved. We sent all the kids, including the work crew and the Year 3 non Choir members out into the audience, so that we could all sing "Silent Night" together. It was lovely hearing those older, deeper voices join in.
Then we sang "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" while the Year Ones handed out the handmade gifts and cards.
One of the Seniors thanked us all and then Santa arrived, bearing a bucket of sweets, which we devoured back at school.
The work crew served the Seniors their meals and got a two course Christmas Dinner for payment. Here they are relaxing beforehand. It was a lovely morning and we thank all those who were there and participated so wholeheartedly.
