~ HAIKU POEMS ~

A Haiku is a traditional Japanese poem about nature. It has a very special pattern made up of seventeen syllables: line 1-five syllables, line 2-seven syllables and line 3-five syllables.

 

TURTLE by VERONICA SHELLS by BUSTA
   
Swimming by the shore Shells on the seashore
Far and wide in search of food Shushing as the tide comes in
She finds shrimp and clams. Get dragged through water.

Jumping through the air Deep down in the sea
Dolphins playing in the sea Gliding across the ocean floor
Exhilarating. Swimming gracefully.

High up in the sky Growing on the land
The sun shining on the land Getting higher and higher
Happy for the light. Looking up at the clouds.

Swaying down below Up in trees with apes
Seahorses hide within it Swinging on the tree branches
Waving gracefully. Wrestling giant crocs.

Gliding through the water Out in the ocean
A dolphin-like mammal swims Swimming around the seabed
Hard, rough barnacles. Excellent swimmers.

Flying Manta Rays Sharks swimming around
Swim with humans on their back Strike in a frenzied attack
Gliding through drop offs. A current underneath.

On a lovely tree See the sweet creatures
Making it quite beautiful Below the glistening waters
Yellow and fluffy. Swimming gracefully.

Killer Whales down deep Deep beneath the sea
Orcas splash in deep water Hiding from sharks and people
Black and white creatures. A beautiful fish.
   
SHARKS by JACK CRAB by CODY
   
Swimming sharks attack Crab under the rock
They strike at powerful lines Goes swimming like a turtle
Teeth eating monsters. Then gliding under rocks.

Deep beneath the sea Swimming in the sea
Eating everything it sees Ducking, diving and sweeping
The mad mackerel flees. Make beautiful sounds.

Running through the fields Hiding in the sea
Jumping over old fences Swimming in the soft seaweed
Getting their coats brushed. Looking for some shrimp.

Out in the ocean On the beach to nest
Wobbily with tentacles She makes a steep, deep hole then
Stingers are scary. Lays lots of soft eggs.

In the water like a pearl This incredible species
Hides in the seaweed. Looks like bony shells.

Swimming deep under water Land on beautiful flowers
Ugly as seaweed. Yellow and black stripes.
