Home: Ethos: Classroom News: Special Events: Working Together: Dampier Primary School was established in 1967 due to the development of Hamersley Iron’s operations in the area. The school population is relatively stable with an average enrolment of 195 students (K - 7). Student numbers are dependent on Pilbara Iron employment strategies and the availability of housing, but generally there is little transience. Parent support at Dampier Primary School is very high. There is a strong emphasis on learning partnerships in the school and parents are actively encouraged to be involved in their child’s “learning journey”. Parents and caregivers play a key role in the education of their children and we believe that students achieve their potential when there is a strong partnership between all stakeholders – child, teacher and parent. Some key features of our school's achievements are: · All students wear school uniform · 95-100% payment of school contributions and charges · Outstanding rates of attendance and participation at school events e.g. Bush Dances, Open Nights, Sports Carnivals, etc. · High levels of positive student behaviour and numerous pastoral care strategies · Very high academic achievement in WA Literacy & Numeracy Assessments, coupled with effective support programmes for students at risk The staff at our school are a dedicated and extremely hard working group of committed professionals, who are striving to plan for improvement based on the different needs of individual students. Our teachers are using the Curriculum Framework and the Outcomes and Standards Framework to develop teaching and learning programs which will equip all of the children at Dampier Primary School with the knowledge, skills, understandings, attitudes and values they will need to lead successful lives in the twenty-first century. At Dampier Primary School we pride ourselves on offering a wide range of programmes, targeting a variety of academic, social, artistic and sporting abilities and interests. Specialist programmes include Visual Arts, Japanese, ICT and Physical Education. Staff and students at Dampier PS also have access to new learning technologies, with the introduction of Interactive Whiteboards in classrooms, which compliment two computer banks and computers in classrooms.
